Garden Tour
The Annual Members Garden Tour will be Thursday, August 6th. Put the date on your calendar. We will meet at the Country Barn at 9:00 a.m. where we will receive a map to the gardens. We will then form carpools to make parking easier at the homes. After the tour we will return to the barn to enjoy a potluck lunch together. This is always a fun time when we get ideas to incorporate into our gardens and make new friends along the way!

Speaker: Ann Scanlan - The Allure of the Truffle
Join us at the July 13th meeting as Ann Scanlan unlocks the secrets behind the world’s most sought-after culinary delight: the truffle. Ann will share an in-depth look at this unique agricultural pursuit, detailing her journey into truffle cultivation.
This presentation covers everything you need to know, from understanding how truffles grow to starting andmaintaining your very own truffle orchard. You will learn the essential requirements for establishing a successful orchard, the demanding maintenance required, and the common pitfalls Ann encountered and overcame.
We will also explore two critical topics: the intense “war” against the critters that love to eat truffles, and the indispensible role of a dog in truflle hunting, including the specifics of their training. Finally, we will dive into the bane of truflle growers and the industry’s biggest controversy: 2,4-dithiapentane, also known as truflle oil.

Step into an Enchanted Garden Boutique at the Veterans Park in beautiful Big Bear Lake, where nature, creativity, and community come together in a magical outdoor market experience. Wander through charming booths filled with plants, garden treasures, unique handmade crafts, artistic creations, and one-of-a-kind decor inspired by the beauty of the outdoors.
Families can enjoy a special Children’s Corner featuring face painting, crafts, and hands-on painting pot activities designed to spakr imagination and a love of gardening. From whimsical finds to botanical inspiration, there’s something delightful waiting around every corner.

Field Trip - Greenspot Farms Pumpkin Patch
Come out and pick your own pumpkin at Greenspot Farms in Mentone. There is also a petting zoo, hay bale tractor ride, country store, and honey shop. Decorating for Fall? There are a variety of pumpkins (different colors), corn, and gourds for sale. Admission and parking are free.
They only accept CASH.
Meet at the Vons Parking Lot at 9am on Tuesday, Oct. 14 to carpool. The Farms are located at 10133 Ward Wy., Mentone.

Build a nursery for native bees! Make a home for digger bees and a bee hotel for cavity dwellers on Thursday, August 14th at 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Chris Panes’ home, 485 Vista Lane, Sugarloaf.
